Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić and the Race Chairman of The Ocean Race, Richard Brisius, yesterday kicked off official dialogue in the lead up to The Ocean Race Europe 2025 spectacular summer finale scheduled for September in Boka Bay, a stunning area in the Adriatic sea.
Meeting at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Spajić and Brisius discussed joint efforts to deliver a game-changing sailing and ocean health event in Montenegro. They also confirmed that Boka Bay will host a The Ocean Race Summit in May 2026, a high-level event where global leaders, sailors, scientists and academic and civil society representatives discuss ways to tackle ocean health challenges.
“The beauty of Boka Bay in September will mesmerize the wider The Ocean Race family and EU citizens. Under the theme ‘Connecting Europe’, one of the world’s most famous yacht races will end a European odyssey in Montenegro, symbolically bringing the country closer to the big European family,” Spajić said.
“Montenegro is ready to make the most out of all opportunities to present its beauty to the world. Now, more than ever, we need to show people in the EU countries that we deserve to be part of their community, and The Ocean Race Europe will help us along the way as we want as many people as possible to see Montenegro in its most beautiful form,” he added.
The Prime Minister stressed that The Ocean Race Europe Finale in Boka Bay will help boost the promotion of tourism in the country, share the beauty of the Adriatic sea, and contribute to extending the summer season with the fleet arriving in Montenegro in the second half of September.
Spajić and Brisius also touched upon the values and spirit of Montenegro’s maritime and naval heritage and stressed the importance of engaging young people in sports and marine and ocean health activities. They also highlighted the country’s potential as a diving destination, particularly for wreck diving.
“Our sailors are excited about the opportunity to explore a new destination and bring competitive racing to Boka Bay, in Montenegro,” Brisius said. “We will have a strong focus on ocean health and science, with teams tapping into renewable energy sources for their on board power requirements while racing and also by collecting and filtering water samples for use by the scientific community studying ocean health.
The Ocean Race Europe is a unique opportunity to connect European people and waters from the start in Kiel, Germany on the Baltic Sea on 10 August, through the Finale at Boka Bay, on the Adriatic six weeks later.”
